Marketing Guidelines for UL Personnel Certification
By earning a UL personnel certification, you have taken an important step in differentiating yourself from others in your field. We encourage you to use the UL Certified personnel promotional badge and marketing references in text to promote your credentials. These guidelines will help you do this accurately. Using the UL Certified promotional badge and marketing references means that you agree to follow all usage guidelines. This information applies to all UL personnel certification programs.
Note: Companies may promote that they employ UL Certified personnel and use the UL Certified promotional badge as noted below.
General Guidelines for Marketing UL Personnel Certification
- Make sure to follow all in-scope and out-of-scope uses of the UL Certified personnel promotional badge and marketing references defined in these guidelines.
- You may use the UL Certified promotional badge and marketing references only while you maintain a UL personnel certification.
- Use the UL Certified promotional badge and marketing references only in relationship to a specific UL personnel certification program. Make sure any use of the UL Certified promotional badge, and references to UL and UL’s personnel certification program are accurate and specific.
- Always include the name of the UL personnel certification program when referring to your certification in text.
- Use only the UL Certified promotional badge or appropriate references in text for marketing your certification.
- Make sure that the UL Certified promotional badge is smaller than your company and brand name or logo.
- These guidelines only cover the use of the UL Certified promotional badge and marketing references to UL personnel certification. Using UL’s name for any other purpose, or any other UL logos or marks must be approved in writing by UL’s Corporate Marketing team in advance.
- Individuals meeting the criteria of our personnel Certification program or certified by another organization to our criteria are not eligible to use the UL Certified promotional badge or make references to UL.
In-Scope and Out-Of-Scope Uses of the UL Certified Personnel Promotional Badge and Marketing UL Personnel Certification
UL Certified Personnel
- We encourage you to use the UL Certified promotional badge and marketing references on your business card, your resume, in your e-mail signature and your personal social channels to promote your capabilities.
- Do not use the UL Certified promotional badge or refer to UL on vehicles, clothing, printed or digital letterhead, or in internet domains or web URLs.
- The UL Certified promotional badge is the only authorized credential for your certification. No other UL logos or UL Marks may be used.
- You may refer to a level of expertise only when your UL personnel certification program defines a specific level of expertise or achievement. For example, do not state or imply that a UL personnel certification indicates that you have ‘expert’ skills unless our certification explicitly refers to you as an ‘expert.’
- If you are no longer certified by UL, please immediately remove all references to UL and UL certification, and the UL Certified promotional badge from your business card, social media profiles and sites and all other uses.
- Using a UL certificate or report in marketing or promotions requires written authorization from UL’s Corporate Marketing team.
Companies Employing UL Certified Personnel
- We encourage you to use the UL Certified promotional badge and marketing references on your marketing collateral and in your company social channels to promote your employment of UL Certified personnel. You may not use the UL Certified promotional badge or refer to UL or UL certification on business cards, in e-mail signatures or on company letterhead. Only UL certified individuals are permitted to use the UL Certified promotional badge and marketing references on their business cards and email signatures.
- Do not use the UL Certified promotional badge or refer to UL on vehicles, clothing, printed or digital letterhead, or in internet domains or web URLs.
- Do not use the UL Certified personnel badge or refer to UL certification unless your employees have earned UL personnel certification.
- Do not use the UL enterprise logo or any other UL Mark to promote the personnel certifications of your employees.
- You may refer to a level of expertise only when a UL personnel certification program defines a specific level of expertise or achievement. For example, do not state or imply that a UL personnel certification means that your employees have ‘expert’ skills unless our certification explicitly refers to the certification as being an ‘expert’ program.
- If your employees are no longer certified by UL or if you no longer employ UL certified personnel, please immediately remove all references to UL and UL certification, and the UL Certified promotional badge from company marketing collateral, social media sites and all other uses.
- Using a UL certificate or report in marketing or promotions requires written authorization from UL’s Corporate Marketing team.
UL Certified Personnel Promotional Badge Color and Artwork
- Always use the UL Certified personnel promotional badge artwork provided by us. Do not re-create the UL Certified promotional badge, change the color of the promotional badge or alter it in any fashion.
- Ideally, the UL Certified promotional badge is at least 13 mm at its narrowest dimension. However, if necessary, the badge can be reduced to fit smaller applications. Always make sure that the text appearing in the UL Certified promotional badge is legible, regardless of the final badge size.
- Maximize the clear space around the UL Certified promotional badge whenever possible. Do not allow any text or images to touch the UL Certified promotional badge.
